Wk 8 - Saturday Run - Roseville to Hornsby 28 km

Description:
This run is 85% bush, about half of it 4WD. Water and toilets are available 2 km in the stretch point, and about 18 km in at Thornleigh Oval (where the drink stop is). This run has terrain similar to all portions of the Six Foot Track, which is why it's been on NRG's schedule for many years. It also has portions that are more technical than Six Foot Track, as well as a few leeches in the section from 20 to 24 km, all of which contribute to this run having its lovers and haters when it comes to feedback, which before GPS was often thought to be a 35-40 km run. It's only 28.

Transportation:
If the trains are running, train is the best way to go. Check the timetables. You will likely be taking the train from Hornsby station back to Roseville or home. You can also drive or cycle to the start. It is a 6K bicycle ride to the run, or 15 minutes via car, from Crow's Nest. Parking is available in the carpark behind the shops off Maclaurin Parade - check the signs so you park in the correct area . Best option if you want to carpool is to reply to this post and ask for a ride. Those who want to give a lift to another NRGer can meet at an agreed location and time.

Risks:
Ah, where do we start? You might get lost, there are some knobbly rocky stretches where care needs to be taken, you might get lost, there are some slippery patches, tripping hazards and steep climbs/descents, and you might get lost. But since Chris Johnson reworked the map for this run, far fewer NRGers have gotten lost. If you come out in Cherrybrook, you've made it a 35 km run, congratulations. Oh yeah, leeches. Harmless as they are, they are attracted to heat and movement, so don't attack with your fingers! If one is crawling on you but hasn't attached, you can use a stick or credit card (they even take Amex) to scrape it off. If it has attached, you're best to let it suck for 20 minutes or so and it will fall off by itself. That said, this is a classic NRG training run, one that gets talked about for months after, year after year.
