November 2023

When did you start with NRG?

I started around 2018 but then took a break from running and rejoined in 2023!

What Pace Group do you run with?

Saturday back of the pack.

Would you recommend NRG club to friends and family?

Definitely! My husband joined with me the first time and I am trying to convince my neighbours and friends to join as well.

What is your favourite way to spend a weekend?

Morning run with NRG of course! Unfortunately I don’t always make it every weekend as I usually take care of my mum on the weekends and sometimes the schedule overlaps.

What was the best vacation you ever took and why?

Hiking up to Everest Base Camp – beautiful people and scenery all along the trek. Very challenging as you get closer to base camp and you have to share 1 bathroom between 40 people, but it was one of the best thing I ever did.

Would you say you're more of an extrovert or an introvert?

Usually an extrovert, but when I am in the middle of a tough run (e.g. before coffee, end of a race or up the 10th hill) best to avoid me as my Tourette and French comes out.

What's your favourite thing about your current job?

Annual leave and it helps pay for my hobbies =)

How would your 10 year old self react to what you do?

Probably cry – I am in risk and compliance.

What's the career highlight you're most proud of?

Being in my current role for 8 years and I am still smiling.

What are you most proud of in the last year?

Getting back into running after a 5 year hiatus, managing my knee issues and completing a marathon in July!

Who do you admire most in the world?

The quiet every day hero who just gets on with living their best life no matter what life throws at them.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be?

Spain – good food, good wine, sunshine and you just have to add an O to every word and you speak the language! Like Una BeerO Por Favor =P. But sensible me say Tasmania – you also have good food, good wine, beautiful scenery and it is only a short flight from friends and family in Sydney.

If you could go back or forward to anytime, when/where would you go?

The 80’s! Puffy sleeves, perms, Lionel Richie and Billy Ocean

What would be the title of your memo?

Keep Smiling

Tell us something about yourself we don't already know.

I am in a community choir and I love sausage dogs.

When did you start with NRG?

I think I started running with NRG in around 2015. I started with Ron's Run, then joined the Thursday social run. These days I mostly do the Saturday long run.

What Pace Group do you run with?

Jim and Pam's short middies

Would you recommend NRG club to friends and family?

Absolutely

What is your favourite way to spend a weekend?

A long run followed by a good breakfast, a walk on the beach and  then a nap on Saturday. Tennis and a swim on Sunday.

What was the best vacation you ever took and why?

I took an 18 month vacation after living in Japan for 10 years, spent time in NZ, Australia, Fiji, Hawaii, Canada, and a few states in the mainland US. It was a very special time where we reconnected with family and friends.

Would you say you're more of an extrovert or an introvert?

On the NRG scale I would be more extrovert than many.

What's your favourite thing about your current job?

Well I'm leaving my current job in two weeks and I'm moving to Brisbane for a new job starting in October. I've loved my job and will miss it but after 12 years it is time to do something new. My favourite thing has been that I've been able to create a great work culture and we have had a lot of fun at work.

How would your 10 year old self react to what you do?

I work in university admin so she would say is that actually a thing?

What's the career highlight you're most proud of?

I've had to give three months notice before leaving my current job so I'm on a high from hearing people saying nice things about me for 2 1/2 months. They'll be so sick of saying goodbye they must be looking forward to be me moving on. I'm most proud of the professionalism I brought to my team and how highly regarded they now are.

What are you most proud of in the last year?

I'm almost back to my running form of 2016.

Who do you admire most in the world?

Anyone who has completed a marathon.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be?

I'd like to go to different places and live there for 3-4 months at a time and absorb the local culture and activities and then go on to live somewhere else. But I'd always need regular stints back in NZ to refresh my soul. Now that I'm leaving Sydney I think I'll need to be back here every few months as well.

If you could go back or forward to anytime, when/where would you go?

I'd love to live in the late sixties and see Elvis, Led Zeppelin and the Beatles live.

What would be the title of your memoir?

She always gets there in the end

Tell us something about yourself we don't already know.

I am the youngest of seven children, and have 5 brothers and 1 sister.

May 2023

When did you start with NRG?

I started running with NRG in January 2017 with Steve Bruggeman's 'Get Up and Running' Program.

What Pace Group do you run with?

Fast-Mid Middies

Would you recommend NRG club to friends and family?

One. Hundred. Percent.

What is your favourite way to spend a weekend?

A long run followed by coffee and good breakfast. At a Swans game, movies or dining out. Or just staying home with a nice home cooked meal and wine.

What was the best vacation you ever took and why?

There have been a few. Ko Samui (Thailand), Queenstown (NZL). It wasn't a vacation, but I liked working and living in Dubai before I came to Australia.

Would you say you're more of an extrovert or an introvert?

It depends on who you are!

What's your favourite thing about your current job?

The culture! It's so important to me after having experienced an albeit well-paid, but hugely challenging work environment from 2013-2018.

How would your 10 year old self react to what you do?

He would say WTH?? I started my career in hospitality and ended up in IT.

What's the career highlight you're most proud of?

At my previous workplace - being promoted as General Manager and leading a dedicated hard-working team, despite the constant pressures and challenges in the workplace.

What are you most proud of in the last year?

Overcoming personal and professional challenges to be where I am today.

Who do you admire most in the world?

My mother.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be?

I haven't been very lucky with travel, so I don't really have a favourite place. I love the beautiful country I live in. I loved Lennox Head when I was there over Christmas last year.

If you could go back or forward to anytime, when/where would you go?

Back to my childhood days.

What would be the title of your memoir?

'Keep Your Head Up'

Tell us something about yourself we don't already know.

I didn't learn to drive until well into my 20's!

November 2021

When did you start with NRG?

So I kicked off my journey with NRG in the first session after lockdown on a damp October evening. Coach Steve directed us around the block a few times as sprinted through a bit of rain.

What Pace Group do you run with?

I was thrust into the fast group with Matt as well as the Fast Middies and I’ve been locked in there since it seems!

Would you recommend NRG club to friends and family?

One hundred percent! I’ve dragged my Dad along to a Tuesday session and a Wednesday morning and he loved both of them!

What is your favourite way to spend a weekend?

Well a solid run followed by a coffee isn’t a bad start! After that maybe a catch up with friends, practicing another language, blogging a bit, watching sport or some Netflix.

What was the best vacation you ever took and why?

I would have to say the family trip to Tokyo in 2018. Pre-Covid, there was such a buzz about the place as we went to this outrageous circus and wolfed down some hearty ramen. Also took a bus up to Mount Fuji and walked through some stunning parks and classy streets…a few of which my Dad and I weaved through on a few 5 km running expeditions.

Would you say you're more of an extrovert or an introvert?

My feet seem to do most of the talking!

What's your favourite thing about your current job?

As an English teacher, the sheer variety of students I get to teach; from pre-school children to university students is pretty cool! Also, teaching online has allowed me to teach students both in Australia as well as Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand where I have lived for six years and plan on returning next year.

How would your 10 year old self react to what you do?

I think my sensible ten year old self would be surprised; maybe a little alarmed and would tell me to get a slightly more conventional 9-5 job!

What's the career highlight you're most proud of?

The English Program Kindergarten Sisaket Christmas Show in Thailand! The kids in my classroom performed the dancing in “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” as well as “We Wish you a Merry Christmas.” Everyone was dressed to the nines as the parents and community had plenty of Christmas cheer!

What's a relationship deal breaker for you?

Supporting Liverpool FC! Limits my options a bit doesn’t it?

What are you most proud of in the last year?

Getting through quarantine as well as being able to catch up with my family and friends after a few years away.

Who do you admire most in the world?

My Gran

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be?

If my family and friends could move to Isan in Thailand that would be swell!

If you could go back or forward to anytime, when/where would you go?

I would go back to 2020 before Covid went ballistic. It was a terrific year with my friends in Thailand where I did a few half marathons as well as this epic, big, brutal jungle run in Sisaket. 18 kilometres of mud and hills…but my goodness it was majestic!

What would be the title of your memoir?

“Running on Sultana Bran”

Tell us something about yourself we don't already know.

This year, I became a virtual tour guide with https://www.freeguides.com/ which has been exciting!
